About our appointments

Our Appointment Structure at Kids at Play Therapy Services

At Kids at Play Therapy Services, we provide goal-focused therapy tailored to your child’s individual needs. Our appointment structure is designed to support meaningful progress while offering flexibility where clinically appropriate.

Most therapy sessions are scheduled on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis, with appointments running for 60 minutes. This includes direct therapy time with your child, plus additional clinical note-taking, parent feedback, and planning to ensure continuity of care outside of your scheduled appointment time.

We offer:

  • In-clinic and outreach appointments (home, school, or early learning settings), where appropriate, based on your child’s presentation and clinical needs.
  • Single or multi-disciplinary support, coordinated across our team (Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Dietetics)
  • Short-term intensives, therapy blocks or ongoing therapy, where indicated
Regular goal reviews, with adjustments to therapy as needed

All of our clinicians manage an active waitlist for the clients they see regularly. This allows us to offer earlier appointments if cancellation spots become available. While we do our best to accommodate each family as quickly as possible, it is unlikely that a regular weekly or fortnightly appointment will be available immediately at initial enquiry.

We appreciate your understanding and are here to guide you through the process. Our team will work with you to match your child with the right clinician and ensure that their therapy journey is supported every step of the way.

FAQ

1. How long are therapy sessions?

Most sessions run for 60 minutes. This includes time for direct therapy and further non-face-to-face support, which provides for documentation, preparation for appointments, and communication with families about progress and strategies for home use.

2. How often will my child have therapy?

Therapy is typically scheduled on a weekly, fortnightly, or monthly basis, depending on your child’s goals, clinical needs, and the therapist's availability.

3. Will my child see more than one therapist?

If your child’s needs span multiple areas, we may recommend support from more than one discipline (e.g., Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology). Our team works together to coordinate care and streamline scheduling where possible.

4. Do you offer outreach appointments?

Yes. Outreach appointments in homes, schools, or early learning settings may be offered based on your child’s clinical needs and presentation. Availability also depends on location and the therapist's schedules.

5. Can we get an appointment straight away?

Due to high demand, it’s unlikely that an ongoing weekly or fortnightly appointment will be available immediately. However, we maintain an active waitlist and will contact you as soon as a suitable spot becomes available.

6. What if we need to cancel or reschedule?

We ask for at least 2 full business days’ notice for cancellations. This allows us to offer the appointment to another family. Cancellations with less notice may incur a fee as outlined in our policy.

7. Can we be offered earlier appointments if someone cancels?

Yes. Many clinicians manage an active client waitlist for regular families and may offer short-notice appointments when cancellations occur.

8. Do you offer short-term or intensive therapy?

Yes. We can offer short-term therapy blocks or intensives during school holidays or when clinically indicated. These may focus on specific skills or goal areas.

9. How do I update my child’s goals or therapy plan?

Therapy goals are reviewed regularly with families. You’re always welcome to speak with your therapist or contact our team if you’d like to discuss changes sooner.
